I am a Certified Diver, can I do some diving on your cruise?

Yes, of course! During the stop on the snorkelling site the Certified Divers go for their dives. All dives are guided by one of our experienced Scuba Instructors and they will show you the highlights of the dive sites.

It is also possible to take the next step in your dive education and do your diving in the form of a Continuing Education Course, like Advanced Open Water Diver or Rescue Diver.

What is the departure time and when are we back in the marina?

MV Mantaray is leaving the Abel Point Marina in Airlie Beach between 7.45am and 8am. Depending on where you stay the complimentary transfer from your hotel/camping is between 7.00am and 7.30am or the meeting point is at the red letterbox in Abel Point Marina.

In the afternoon the boat will be back in Abel Point Marina between 4.30pm and 5.30pm and of course we will bring you back to your hotel or camping.

Are there any half day trips?

No. With MV Mantaray we only do full day trips.

I have a medical issue, can I go snorkelling/diving anyway?

This depends…

You have to fill out a medical questionnaire on the boat, so if you know of any health issues please go to see a doctor first and get a medical certificate that says that you are fit for diving/snorkelling.

Please be informed that also some types of medication can exclude you from any in-water activities, unless you have a Medical Certificate that says you are fit for snorkelling/diving.

What about lunch, I am allergic/can’t eat/don’t want to eat specific things

The lunch on board is a cold buffet. We offer different salads, cold meat, chicken legs and bread. If you have any dietary requirements let us or the travel agent know when you book the cruise and we will make sure that there is a complete lunch for you on board without the ingredients that you want to exclude.

Can I go Scuba Diving without a certification?

Try Scuba Diving with our Discover Scuba Diving Program!Yes you can! We offer the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program on board Mantaray. You can sign up on the day and make a dive with one of our instructors.

A PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience is a great way to find out what scuba diving is really like before you take the full scuba certification course.

Your scuba instructor will spend a little time with you to explain the basic principles of scuba diving and give you an overview of your scuba gear.

Once you feel comfortable, your instructor will take you in the shallow water in the lagoon to help you learn basic scuba skills. Then, if you like, you can go with your instructor for a short discovery dive up to 10-12 metres. Most Discover Scuba Diving experiences will take about an hour. After that it is even possible to do a second dive without doing any skills and just enjoy the reef!

The skills you learn during your Discover Scuba Diving experience may be credited toward the full PADI Open Water Diver certification.

Do you offer trips to the Outer Reef?
Unfortunately not…

The trip to the Outer Reef would take about 4+ hours (one way) so the time left to do any snorkelling or Scuba Diving will be close to zero.

Instead of that we offer you a high quality cruise to the Whitsunday Islands and a visit to the stunning White Sand of Whitehaven Beach and take you snorkelling or Scuba Diving around the Whitsunday Islands.

When you specifically want to go to the Outer Reef we recommend you to contact one of the “live aboard” cruises that are offered in Airlie Beach. For more information please contact your Travel Agency.

What can we see on the Snorkel/Dive sites?
Snorkelling or Scuba Diving on the reefs around the Whitsunday Islands gives you the opportunity to see the wonderful underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef… Yes, also the Islands are part of the largest Barrier Reef in the world!

Lots of corals and tropical fish will show their selves in their natural surrounding and occasionally you will be able to see Turtles, Sharks, Giant Bumphead Parrot fish and Barracuda’s, just to name a few.

In the right season you also might see Mantarays (when-when?) or Humpback Whales (August – November), although the last not whilst snorkelling or diving but from the boat.

How do I pay for the cruise?
For payments with a foreign credit card we need to add 1.5% to the amount!

There are different ways to settle your bill.

  1. You booked directly with us; In that case we ask for your credit card details to secure the booking. We will NOT charge your credit card at this moment, you can pay the whole amount on the boat in cash or with your credit card.
  2. You booked through one of our agencies and you paid only a deposit; In this case you you can pay the rest of the amount on the boat in cash or with your credit card.
  3. You booked through one of our agencies and you paid the full amount MINUS the Marine Park fees; The only this you need to pay on the boat will be the $8 Marine Park fee. You can pay this in cash or with your credit card.
  4. You booked through one of our agencies and you paid the full amount; This is easy… everything is already paid and you don’t have to worry about a thing.
